Designed to foster mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries to promote friendly, sympathetic, and peaceful relations, the Gilman Scholarship Program is an undergraduate grant program for U.S. citizens of limited financial means to enable them to study abroad, thereby internationalizing their outlook and better preparing them to thrive in the global economy. It is open to U.S. citizen undergraduate students who are receiving Federal Pell Grant funds.
Davies-Jackson Scholarship

Sponsored by the Council for Independent Colleges, the Davies-Jackson Scholarship presents a unique opportunity for students with exceptional academic records, who are among the first generation in their families to graduate college, to participate in a course of study at St. John’s College at the University of Cambridge. Scholars are admitted as affiliated students and have the opportunity to take the more advanced parts of a Cambridge degree course and qualify for a Cambridge BA in two years instead of the usual three. Following the completion of their first year of study, some Scholars have opted into a one-year M. Phil program at the discretion of the Senior Tutor at St. John's. Available To: GCI U is a unique opportunity to connect aspiring leaders with leading experts in business, technology, and social impact. Each year, thousands of undergraduate and graduate students from accross the country and around the world apply to participate in GCI U's year-round community of learning, leadership, and action — beginning with a global meeting where participants, topic experts, and high-profile innovators convene to support and learn from each other. This is a yearlong program with applications due in January each year. Nominations are welcome from across campus. Fulbright Program for U.S. Students

Available To: U.S. citizens who are graduating seniors or who already hold a B.S./B.A. (or equivalent) degree and are thinking of studying, teaching, conducting research or doing art abroad. Applicants must have sufficient proficiency in the written and spoken language of the host country to communicate with the people and to carry out the proposed study. All applicants must meet with the Fulbright Program Advisor (Dr. Nitz) prior to submitting an application. Applicants need to submit their research proposals by September of their senior year. George Mitchell Scholarship

Available To: Individuals ages 18 to 30 who have shown academic distinction, commitment to service, and potential for leadership. Universities waive tuition and board. Scholars are given an $11,000 stipend and a travel stipend to travel Ireland, the United Kingdom and Europe. Twelve applicants are selected each year and applications are due mid-March. Marshall Scholarship

Available To: Graduate study in any university in Britain, field of study unrestricted, for up to two years. To be eligible, students must have a 3.7+ GPA. (40 Scholarships annually). Pi Delta Phi Scholarships

Pi Delta Phi, the National French Honor Society for U.S. undergraduate and graduate students, awards three annual scholarships totaling more than $21,000 for summer study at the American Universities in Paris and Aix-en-Provence (France), and the University of Québec at Chicoutimi (Canada). Applicants must be members of Pi Delta Phi and meet with the faculty advisor of Augustana’s Mu Alpha chapter (Dr. Scott Fish) prior to submitting an application. Rhodes Scholarship for Study at Oxford University

Available To: Thirty-two exceptional students are provided the opportunity for further study of every field with a proposed course of study while in Oxford. The scholarship covers all educational expenses, such as matriculation, tuition, laboratory and certain other fees, as well as travel costs to and from Oxford. Each scholar also receives a maintenance allowance adequate to meet necessary expenses for term-time and vacations. The deadline is mid-October and applications are available at rhodesscholar.org.

Schwarzman Scholarship

The Schwarzman Scholarship seeks to prepare future leaders in politics, business or science by promoting an understanding of China’s role in global trends. Schwarzman Scholars pursue a one-year Masters in Global Affairs at prestigious Tsinghua University in Beijing. Udall Undergraduate Scholarship

The Udall Foundation awards scholarships, fellowships, and internships for study in fields related to the environment and to American Indians and Alaska Natives in fields related to health care and tribal public policy; provides funding to the Udall Center for Studies in Public Policy and to the Native Nations Institute to conduct environmental policy research, research on American Indian and Alaska Native health care issues and tribal public policy issues, and training; and provides assessment, mediation, training, and other related services through the John S.
